Welcome to the SCAM Repository project.

Welcome to the SCAM Repository Development Platform project.

Descriptive information about resources (e.g. metadata) is a general problem when managing digital resources. Metadata management gets more complex as the number of resources grows. Metadata must be able to exist on several levels for a resource. Raging from simple, bibliographic metadata to advanced descriptions that carry semantics and expresses relations between and within digital resources. A sophisticated use of digital resources requires sophisticated metadata management!

SCAM Repository Development Platform is a development framework intended for anyone that want to develop advanced and sophisticated repository solutions based on Semantic Web Technology and RDF. The SCAM Development Platform, which is the core of SCAM, is distributed as source code or as JAR files.

SCAM (SCAM Repository or SCAM Nimble) is intended to be used as a basis for building repositories for the Semantic Web. The idea is that SCAM provides a stable and scalable solution that is capable of storing RDF data in a relational databases without demanding a lot of programming. SCAM hides the complexity of Semantic Web technology, and provides a highly adaptable and flexible out-of-the box solution for developing Semantic Web repositories with a minimum of development efforts and resources. SCAM can also be integrated or even embedded into other systems that are in need of advanced RDF functionality. One example of such use is the VWE, which is a modular Virtual Learning Environment.

Beside providing advanced Semantic Web and RDF support, SCAM also provides a number of basic and advanced repository functionality. Se the feature list and SCAM documentation.

SCAM 3.X is developed using Java, Open Symphony's Webworks and Velocity. SCAM is distributed with the HyperSonic database and/or PostGreSQL, but supports a number of other databases as well. SCAM is Open Source and licensed under a combined GPL/LGPL license.

Two flavors of SCAM

SCAM comes in two flavors:
* The SCAM Repository (That is basically the SVN-version for advanced development)
* The SCAM Nimble (Which is intended for rapid development of Semantic Web repositories. SCAM Nimble covers the needs in most cases)
* In addition, there is also an ePortfolio application built upon SCAM Nimble, called SCAM ePortfolio. SCAM ePortfolio is intended for use in education.
